Biography

Manuel Ferreira is a sought-after orchestral trumpet player who performs regularly with renowned orchestras and ensembles. He has collaborated with the Opernhaus Zürich, Orchester le Buisson Prospérant, Remix Ensemble – Casa da Música, Zürcher Barockorchester, Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, Zürcher Symphoniker, and Berner Symphonieorchester.

In addition to his work on the modern trumpet, Manuel is also active in the early music scene performing on the baroque trumpet. Since 2020, he has been taking baroque trumpet lessons with Prof. Simon Lilly. In April 2025, he was appointed as an academist with the Balthasar-Neumann Orchestra as part of their new Balthasar Nova program. This position has taken him to concerts in various countries, including Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Uruguay and France, under the direction of renowned conductors such as Thomas Hengelbrock, Lionel Sow and Pablo González.

Manuel Ferreira was born in 2002 in Porto, Portugal. He began his musical education at the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral in his hometown. He started playing the trumpet in 2010, studying first with Prof. Pedro Gonçalves. From 2012 onwards, he continued his studies under Prof. Telmo Barbosa at the same institution, where he graduated from secondary school in 2020.

After completing his secondary music education in Portugal, Manuel moved to Switzerland to continue his studies. In 2020, he began his Bachelor’s degree in Classical Trumpet at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), studying under Professor Frits Damrow and graduating in 2023. He then completed a Master’s degree in Music Education (2023–2025) with Professors Frits Damrow and Corrado Bossard. Since 2025, he has been pursuing a Master’s degree in Specialized Music Performance (Orchestra) with Professors Immanuel Richter and Laurent Tinguely.

Alongside his performing career, Manuel is also active in the field of music education. After completing his Master’s degree in Music Pedagogy, he began teaching numerous students, and in August 2025 he was appointed as a trumpet teacher at the Musikschule Adliswil-Langnau in Zurich, Switzerland.

Manuel is a scholarship holder of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon).
